Torquay welcomes the Elite women cyclists from the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race
On Wednesday 24 January 2018, The Surf Coast Shire coordinated a meet and greet where surf coast locals were welcome to schmooze and meet the women cyclists competing in the Deakin University Elite Race.
The celebrations got underway with the athletes arriving at the picturesque hillside of the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club. After a few words from the Torquay Mayor, the athletes were treated to a ceremonial indigenous welcome.
Following the ceremony locals rang their bells and took the time to pose with the Australian and International cyclists.
If you want to cheer on the women cyclists, the Deakin Elite Women’s Race starts this Saturday 27 January 2018 at Geelong waterfront at 11:20am. They are expected to cycle through Torquay approx. 12noon – 12:50pm. Cheers spots will be located throughout Torquay, so watch the action roadside or at your favourite café along the Esplanade.
